Standing Up For Rugby
Standing Up for Rugby
Jerry Roodhouse and Rugby Liberal Democrats launch there manifesto,
Rugby deserves councillors who work hard, listen to residents, and deliver real results. That is exactly what Rugby Liberal Democrats are doing. We work constructively with others when it benefits Rugby — but we will always stand up for our town when it matters.
Our Manifesto Standing Up For Rugby
People before party. Rugby before politics.
Rugby Is Finally Moving Forward
For over 20 years, Rugby’s town centre stood still while other towns moved ahead. Now, things are finally starting to change. Liberal Democrats have helped push forward regeneration projects and challenged the slow decision-making that has held Rugby back. But progress is still fragile.
This election will decide whether Rugby keeps moving forward — or slips backwards again.
Real Action, Not Empty Promises
Since the 2024 council agreement, Liberal Democrats have helped deliver practical improvements for local people.
Our recent council budget has delivered:
- ✔ Green bin charges frozen
- ✔ Car park charges frozen
- ✔ More funding for community groups and volunteers
- ✔ Investment in allotments and connector paths
- ✔ Support for Love Rugby events bringing life back into the town centre
- ✔ Reduced bureaucracy and modernised services
We have also improved council services by:
- ✔ Reducing missed bins
- ✔ Cutting call waiting times
- ✔ Improving council housing repairs
- ✔ Removing payment backlogs
- ✔ Making services more efficient and accountable
These are real changes making a difference to residents.
Regenerating Rugby Town Centre
Everyone talks about regeneration. But real regeneration means rolling up your sleeves and getting things done. Liberal Democrats are delivering:
- Progress on 11+ town centre projects
- Improvements to public spaces
- Action on empty sites
- More events and activity
- Pressure on absentee landlords and overseas investors
Rugby deserves a town centre people can feel proud of again.
Protecting Rugby’s Voice
Local Government reorganisation could mean decisions about Rugby being taken miles away.
That’s why we support creating a Rugby Town Council — to keep decisions local.
This would help protect:
- Parks and green spaces
- Rugby Art Gallery and Museum
- Local planning decisions
- Support for the town centre
Without a strong local voice, Rugby risks being overlooked.
Our Plan for Rugby’s Future
More Opportunities for Young People
We want young people to build their future here in Rugby.
We will:
- Expand apprenticeships and skills training
- Support green jobs and future industries
- Deliver more affordable homes
- Repurpose empty shops for youth and community use
- Strengthen mental health support
- Create a Rugby Youth Forum
Supporting Older Residents
Rugby should be a town where everyone feels connected and valued.
We will:
- Support community cafés and befriending schemes
- Improve pavements and accessibility
- Work with the NHS to improve access to care
- Introduce renewable energy grants
- Help residents stay connected online
Stronger Communities
We want safer, greener and stronger neighbourhoods.
Our priorities include:
- Supporting local businesses and market traders
- Increasing town centre footfall
- Improving town centre Wi-Fi
- Protecting parks and green spaces
- Building the right homes in the right places
- Tackling antisocial behaviour
- Giving communities a stronger voice
Putting Rugby People First
Too many decisions about our town are made far away from Rugby. Even Rugby Central Shopping Centre is owned by investors outside our community. Investment is welcome — but local people must have a say.
That’s why we will create a Rugby Citizens’ Panel, giving residents, businesses and community groups a real voice in shaping the town centre.
A Greener, Stronger Future
Our long-term plan includes:
- Greener streets and cleaner air
- Safer walking and cycling routes
- Support for independent businesses
- “Made in Rugby” branding
- Developing heritage and tourism
- Partnerships with colleges and employers for local jobs
At this election, you have a clear choice.
Councillors who:
- ✔ Listen to residents
- ✔ Work hard for our town
- ✔ Protect local services
- ✔ Support local businesses
- ✔ Stand up for Rugby
Or politicians who take Rugby for granted.
Don’t Let Others Decide Rugby’s Future
Turnout in local elections is often low. That means every vote matters. If you want Rugby to keep moving forward — please vote Liberal Democrat.
