Weekly Food Waste Collections Are a Win for Rugby Residents

Rugby residents are set to benefit from weekly food waste collections, making it easier to recycle, reducing waste, and helping protect our environment.

Every year, thousands of tonnes of food waste end up in general rubbish bins. By collecting food waste separately each week, it can be turned into renewable energy and fertiliser instead of being sent for disposal.

This is good news for local people because it means:

  • Weekly removal of food waste, helping to keep bins cleaner and reduce unpleasant smells.
  • More opportunities to recycle, making it easier for households to reduce the amount of rubbish they throw away.
  • Lower carbon emissions by recycling food waste into green energy.
  • Less waste sent for disposal, helping to protect our environment for future generations.

Rugby Liberal Democrats have consistently supported practical policies that make recycling easier while delivering real environmental benefits. The best environmental policies are those that work for residents as well as for the planet.

As the new service is introduced, we want Rugby Borough Council to make sure residents receive clear information, suitable food waste containers, and a straightforward collection service from day one.

Councillor Sam Edwards, Rugby Liberal Democrat spokesperson, said:

"Weekly food waste collections are a positive step for Rugby. They will make recycling easier for residents, help keep bins cleaner, and ensure that food waste is put to good use by generating renewable energy rather than being thrown away. We will continue to work to ensure the new service is delivered efficiently and provides good value for local taxpayers."

Rugby Liberal Democrats will continue to support practical, common-sense measures that help tackle climate change while improving local services for everyone.
