Warwickshire Lib Dems: Don’t waste this opportunity

This is the message that the Lib Dems will give at the budget debate on Tuesday 18 February to the Conservative administration at Shire Hall Warwick.

The Lib Dems will be calling on the Conservatives to not waste this opportunity and to deliver on:

• Climate Change investing in buses, walking, cycling and supporting our local businesses to change how they work.
• Families and young people tackling child poverty making it a priority investing in SEND / children's services.
• Healthy Communities investing in supporting older people and prevention no more cuts to public health
• Safer Communities supporting our Police and tackling drugs, alcohol and domestic abuse.

Cllr Jerry Roodhouse Lib Dem group Leader said, "we are seeking to be a constructive opposition and we have already made it know to Cllr Izzi Seccombe the Leader of Warwickshire County Council what our priorities are. We recognise that politically the Conservative are the controlling administration and have all the votes. But I am calling on the administration to scrap the proposed residents parking scheme , also on climate change they need to step up and do more by working and investing with our communities and we desperately need to see long term investment to ensure children's services are sustainable and child poverty reducing but sitting above all of this has to be a coordinated approach into climate change and rethinking our approach towards creating a new circular economy getting in line with action programmes from The Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP) http://www.wrap.org.uk and inviting in organisations such as The Ellen Macarthur Foundation https://www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/circular-economy/concept for Warwickshire, there is an opportunity that they could and should take I just hope that they don't waste this opportunity by not making the bold moves that are now needed ."

We will be also calling on the Conservative Leader and Warwickshire MPs to lobby the Government for fairer funding for local councils and not to just keep asking local taxpayers to keep footing the bill with ever increasing Council tax.

• Constant one-off funding from Government no long-term funding.
• Climate Change weather flooding, heat exstreame.

• Digital exclusion increasing more help needed
• Worsening air quality due to increased growth
• Waste and recycling figures not improving quickly
• Special Educational needs funding (SEND)
• Increased numbers of children with disabilities
