Thank You, Rugby — Liberal Democrats Ready to Keep Standing Up for Rugby
The votes have been counted, and we want to say one thing first and foremost — thank you.
Thank you to every resident who took the time to vote in this year’s Borough Council elections. Democracy matters, and it was encouraging to see turnout rise to 42.24%, significantly higher than in previous local elections. That sends a clear message that residents care deeply about the future of Rugby.
We are delighted that in Paddox, Noreen New was re-elected with 40.7% of the vote, and in Eastlands, Sam Edwards was returned with 39.2% support from local residents.
Across the borough, voters also returned Liberal Democrat councillors in Dunsmore and Rokeby & Overslade, while the Liberal Democrats gained two seats from the Conservatives in Bilton.
The new political makeup of Rugby Borough Council is now:
- 15 Conservatives
- 12 Labour
- 12 Liberal Democrats
- 3 Reform UK
No single party now has overall control of the Council.
This election has shifted the political landscape in Rugby and, with major changes to local government approaching, the message from voters is clear — now is the time to work together and deliver for Rugby.
Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Jerry Roodhouse, said:
“With all the changes to local government coming down the line, now is not the time to keep playing party political games but to unite for the future of Rugby.
Through our manifesto, Liberal Democrats have made it clear we will continue Standing Up for Rugby.
We will continue to fight for improved health access, acceleration of town centre regeneration, progress on Rugby Central, Brotherhood House and Herbert Grey, and stronger support for our local businesses.
We also want to work more closely with Parish Councils and create a Town Council to secure a strong future and lasting legacy for Rugby.
The Council now needs to step up, move faster and focus on delivering for residents. Our hope is that all political groups can work together for the sake of our communities and residents.”
The election result marks a new chapter for Rugby Borough Council. Residents expect cooperation, delivery and leadership — not division. The Liberal Democrats remain committed to standing up for Rugby, championing our communities and ensuring the borough gets the ambitious future it deserves.
