Taxi Please!

12 Sep 2014

Since Rugby Borough Council deregulated the number of Hackney cabs operating in the town centre which we opposed at the time there have been growing calls and protests against the sheer volume of taxis operating in North Street and Church Street area.

The number has almost doubled from 51 operators to a staggering 98! There are only 13 rank spaces available.

Cllrs Neil Sandison and Sue Roodhouse visit the area.

Eastland's Cllr. Neil Sandison said, "The main complaint has been a lack of rank space in the town centre with some drivers openly flaunting the Highway Code. Following calls for a review by Liberal Democrat Councillors a working party has now been set up to see if more rank space can be made available where shoppers and those using the night time economy can access taxi provision, reduce on street congestion and violent disorder."
