Getting the Balance Right for Rugby

14 Sep 2014

As we move ever closer to the first phase of delivery on the Rugby Radio Station Site development Lib Dem Councillors are calling for a sustainable balance between large scale development and its supporting green infrastructure. We are calling for the land set aside for that infrastructure to be transferred over to Council ownership to ensure its long term community benefit to the residents of Rugby.

We are concerned that at the moment it is not clear from the present negotiations about the site that the Council will have control over these green spaces for the benefit of local residents. Lib Dems say this is not acceptable. Rugbeians need assurances that the Council will have control over these areas. There should be well thought out agreements that include viable long term habitat management plans with the developer so that future generations can enjoy these areas. Also, the Oxford Canal Corridor should form part of a wider countryside parkland setting. Rugby is expanding and growing. The Lib Dems will seek to ensure that Rugby residents benefit by working for the establishment of 'green lungs and corridors' as part of future developments and that those areas are in full public stewardship.
