Liberal Democrats are calling on Warwickshire County Council to step in and give extra support to children and families following the Government's U-turn on schools reopening.

Warwickshire Liberal Democrats are concerned that vulnerable children will be at greater risk and the gaps for attainment and schooling will widen, along with the mental health stress that this is causing not only for young people but also to parents.

Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, Group Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Warwickshire County Council said:

"The County Council should be taking the lead, by introducing extra support through establishing summer schools working with youth clubs, Scouts, Cubs, Guides and local sports groups.

"I am concerned as the longer this goes on the education attainment for young people will get wider, mental health and self-harm issues were already an increasing concern prior to Covid-19 this will now increase that pressure.

"The County should take the lead and support families and young people"
