Disappointment at NHS inspection event (4 March)

4 Mar 2015

There was disappointment at the NHS Inspectors meeting this evening (Wednesday 4 March) when the Care Quality Commission inspectors said they were not there to take views on what services should be available to local residents at the Hospital of St Cross. Issues relating to GP Surgeries closing their waiting lists, or GP Surgeries just closing and the desirability of restoring maternity and accident emergency services to deal with Rugby's rapidly growing population were not considered by the commission.

The inspectors did take evidence from Rugby residents on the quality of care provided by the local hospitals. There was praise for some of the specialist facilities provided by St Cross. On the other hand there were complaints raised about patients travelling to Walsgrave for outpatients appointments and then waiting hours for the tests they needed. Most telling of all were complaints about Walsgrave discharging elderly and frail patients at night and telling them to make their own way back to Rugby.

Hospital of St Cross Rugby - no accident and emergency unit
The ambulance might take you to Walsgrave but how do you get back with your leg in plaster ?
