County Manifesto Launched

24 Mar 2013

Warwickshire's Liberal Democrats have launched their manifesto for the County Council elections on 2nd May.

Entitled "Transforming Warwickshire and unlocking the potential of its communities", the manifesto sets out the key Lib Dem priorities over the next four years in the context of the huge financial and demographic challenges faced by the council.

Priorities for the Liberal Democrats include school safety zones including 20 mph advisory speed limits; reinvesting in public transport - where Warwickshire is now bottom of the league; and putting safety, health and well-being at the heart of everything the county council does.

Lib Dem group leader Cllr Jerry Roodhouse (Rugby Eastlands & Hillmorton) said:

The Conservative administration has made huge spending mistakes over the last four years, most notably the Rugby Western Relief Road which cost double the budget of £30 million. The Liberal Democrats opposed the ill-fated waste incinerator (Project Transform), which was backed enthusiastically by both Tories and Labour, but which would have cost the Council over £250 million in excess costs over 25 years if it had gone ahead.

No-one can predict for certain the likely shape of the Council after 2nd May, or what form the future administration will take. Our manifesto sets out the clear principles and key priorities which will guide our actions over the next four years.
