Allotments
At Full Council 24th Sept I spoke about the positive impact a new allotment site at Centenary Park site will have on the community. Here is my speech:
“As someone involved with an allotment at Lansdowne Allotment Association I can speak very highly of this funding for an allotment at Centenary Park. My own well being and health has benefited from an allotment and there will be a positive impact for local residents of Newbold and Brownsover.
-It will enable residents to grow their own food
- It will provide additional plots to people from local area
- And it will reflect the corporate values of the Council for a Healthier Rugby - to support people to live healthier, longer and more independent lives
- A Greener Rugby - to protect the environment and ensure borough adapts to climate change
- And a Fairer Rugby. It doesn’t seem fair that in some parts of Rugby there are allotments and in others there are not. This will reduce inequalities and give more people access to green space.
I’d like to close with comments on social media from people who say they are residents in Newbold and Brownsover and live in flats without gardens and who look forward to using these allotments.
I therefore fully support this allocation of funds and encourage Council to support this initiative.”
